Here's what we often see people get wrong: your feelings aren't what's causing you issues. Your REACTION to them might be.

Feelings aren't something we can control. They come and go - and that's okay. There's nothing wrong with how you feel.

But just because you're angry, sad, jealous, etc. doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want in response.

If you feel like you're acting "too emotionally", try shifting your goal away from controlling how you feel and towards controlling what you do with those feelings.

Happy "unofficial" start to summer!

As we start the holiday weekend, here's a helpful reminder that you don't need to have the "perfect" body to enjoy summer activities.

But that's easier said than done! If you're struggling, here are some quick tips to get yourself out there in the sun:

1. Check in with yourself about what you're really comfortable with. If you're going to feel self conscious in a bikini, don't wear one. If you prefer to keep your shirt on, do it.

2. Find people who keep the comments to themselves. If there's someone in your life who is a body shamer or tends to promote diet culture, they aren't a good pool buddy.

3. Remember where the shame comes from. Who decided what the ideal beach body is anyway? No one you need to listen to. We recommend looking up "body neutrality" to see how you can reframe your perspective to not buy into the BS.

There's often a lot to look back on a cringe about our younger days, but spending all of our time with groups of friends isn't usually one of them.

As we get older, you might be happy to put some of those questionable Saturday night decisions in the rear view (we relate!). But at the same time, it's totally understandable if you're feeling sad about the distance that might be in your friendships as everyone moves on and grows in their own life.

We're here to tell you that different doesn't need to equal worse. Change is inevitable but that doesn't mean your relationships are less than they were.

It's a normal human reaction to get defensive if someone in your love provides feedback that you've upset them or hurt their feelings. It's normal to get defensive if you're getting bad news or they're sharing something that feels loaded to you.

But that doesn't mean it's helpful!

Instead, take a deep breath and pause to ask yourself "Is it possible that this person has a point, even if I don't like it?".

Then LISTEN to what they're saying. The answer to that question above is usually yes. It's a lot easier to get to a place of understanding if you really listen to what someone is saying before you respond.
